Happy National Chocolates Day
1. Self-assessment of your stand alone "Alien/the Other" text response - do this in OneNote. You should have had a peer-assessment done on Monday.
2. A couple more sample micro fictions for you:
Last bit of class time on the Micro fiction stories. Rubric etc. is in a document in OneNote/collaboration space - which is where you should put your story, on the page with the pseudonym you created Monday.
Tuesday
Reminder: Please have your "What can 'the other' teach us about ourselves?" stand alone text response in OneNote no later than tomorrow please.
1. 10 minutes of Creative fun: open up OneNote and create a page called "Play". Next, go to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_songs_that_retell_a_work_of_literature. On your page write the first word from the web site that jumps out at you. For example, you might try to begin with the most random NOUN from the website that you can find. Next to it put 5 verbs. Keep adding words. Focus on selecting words based on their SOUND rather than their meaning. Start a new line when you feel it is right. Compose at least 15 lines poetry or prose.
When you're done, if you like your results, post it to the comments section on this web site: http://thewritepractice.com/fun-writing-exercise/#comments
2. Terms and devices for poetry: connotation vs denotation, consonance vs alliteration vs assonance, dissonance vs cacophony vs euphony
3. Finish working on your micro fiction story from yesterday.
Monday

Can you name the guitarist in the photo?

my favourite is the Benedict Cumberbatch name generator!
2. Peer edit your partner's response paragraph. There is a peer response form for you to complete in OneNote next to your partner's paragraph.3. Terms and devices for poetry: connotation, denotation, consonance, diction, dissonance...
4. Creative writing - back to that flash fiction opportunity!
FUN! PRIZES!
FLASH FICTION CHALLENGE: X VERSUS Z
OR
FLASH FICTION CHALLENGE: a picture is worth 50+ words
Place your story into the collaboration space in Office 365. Identify yourself using only your "nom de plume"
If you want to collaborate with another student, that is fine, just come up with 2 different flash fiction stories. Put both of your noms de plume on the work for the collaboration space AND in the Assignment space.
Even if you don't win a prize from the contests below, we will have a class competition. I have one rule before I go out and buy prizes: everyone present today must submit a flash fiction. We will judge the entries in class next tomorrow.
Here is a backgrounder on writing flash fiction.https://learning.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/10/03/short-and-sweet-reading-and-writing-flash-fiction/comment-page-1/?_r=0
Here is a good 50 word story about an image:
The first time the balloons came, it was raining. They emerged from the clouds, plump rotting plums, panting out thick gold coins that rattled down our streets. The thunder spoke: ‘consider this payment in advance.’ Today we saw them approaching, we do not know what they have come to take.
Post OneNote collaboration space using your pseudonym(s).
