We are in the computer lab today. Here are your tasks:
1. Polish up your non-fiction. Judging begins after the first 20 minutes of class.
2. Complete reading the two remaining short stories for Isfeld Reads 2017 - there will be an easy quiz Monday on all 5 to ensure you have read each of them.
3. Make sure your group has prepared all the necessary things for Isfeld Read 2017 which will take place on Monday. This is your last class to prepare. You will receive an individual grade for your work with the group. Here are the learning competencies you are to demonstrate:

1. Isfeld reads 2017! We are going to take a look at 5 short stories in the next several classes.
2. You are going to make groups of 5 or 6. There can only be 5 groups in total - one for each of the short stories. All of the stories can be found in office 365/content library/isfeld reads 2017.
3. When we have finished reading each of the stories in class, your group will be responsible for representing one of the stories and presenting an argument for why it should win Isfeld reads 2017.
4. Today, we will start with a review pre-quiz on short story terms to ensure everyone is up to speed on them.
5. Form your groups and draw the name of the short story your group will endorse.
6. Watch a segment of Canada Reads to discover how you should argue for your short story to the class.
7. We will read one of the five stories today.

1. Isfeld Reads 2017! continues with short story #2.
2. Get together in your group and read your story if you haven't already done so. Review the Canada Reads format: what does the 'video' provide related to the story? What do the 30 second 'arguments' include? Begin preparation of your group's defence of your short story.
a) the story “video” / blurb about the story
b) the 30-60 brief of why your story should win
c) a panel discussion - create one question to give to me
d) reads segment from the story - killer passage - this passage should show the theme?message?purpose? of the story
3. When you come up with the one question to put towards the panel discussion, make sure you can answer the question about your book as well. Example: What is the relevance of this story for high school students such as those attending Isfeld?
3. Complete your Flash Fiction story for tomorrow's judging.
