Today's word is Brexiteer - any guesses what it means?*
1. We are in 506 today so that you can write the 1st reading response to your classic novel.
2. Guidelines for the novel response are in the links section of this blog.
3. Make sure that you deal with the 3 levels of reading in your response: basic comprehension, how does author say what they say (structure, organization, style/literary techniques), and BIG IDEAs about life, society, human behaviour that are apparent.
4. For this 1st response, you are not to use any secondary sources such as SparkNotes or Shmoop, etc. Therefore, you will not need to use quotes, and you will not need a guide for how to cite a source. I will provide you with one for the next response. Your entire response must be "outta your own head."

1. Reading time: read your novel so you are ready for tomorrow's reading response writing time and read Hemingway story to make sure you are ready for today's quiz.

3. Complete going over yesterday's terms & devices.
4. SHLOFM questions are due tomorrow. You have time to work on them today.

Post-truth - Oxford dictionaries word of the year. Guess what it means?
1. Reading time for your novel.

3. Essay terms and devices: get yourselves into 2s or 3s. I will give you a word. You have 10 minutes to define it, find a simple, clear, but strong example, and print it so that you can put it up in the room. Be prepared to explain it to the class.

Alascattalo Day is a day to honour Alaskan humour. Based on their mascot the Alascattalo which is a cross between a moose and a walrus.

1. Time to read your classic lit novel - you will have time in the computer lab on Thursday to write your first journal entry. Do not work on the journal entries outside of class time. There have been some minor instances of plagiarism related to the term 1 banned book; therefore, work on the current novel is to be completed during class time.
