On the copy of the soliloquy write the meaning for the word so that you can follow Hamlet's argument more easily.
- To be or not to be… 2 column note taking & personal response OR annotate the 2 versions of the solioquy and personal response: Discuss the similarities and differences in the two versions you selected: were lines cut; did it matter; setting (time and place); props; lighting/atmosphere; staging of scene (movement(s) of actor); RESPONSE: (compare and contrast the two different versions) Paragraph 1: trace Hamlet’s arguments/mood/tone of voice throughout the soliloquy. How does this Hamlet think through his question? What are his fears? What are his options? Paragraph 2: Which version of the speech do you prefer? Why (details people, give me details and examples)? Which version makes Hamlet’s decision making process clearest to you? Why do you think this is one of the most famous/quoted/familiar pieces from all of Shakespeare's works?
