Today's class was a work period for the Banned Book essay.

Thursday
I was able to book room 506 for class today so you can work on your Banned Book essay. Remember that the instructions for the essay are in the links section of this blog. The rubric for the essay is also in the links section.

Wednesday
"Multi-culturalism, Canada’s Brand” review techniques of persuasive writing: bias/propaganda/manipulation. Introduce/review remaining non-fiction terms. During reading Post Its: identify non-fiction techniques used in the text. After reading: understanding form, techniques/devices, audience, purpose, bias. Group work carousel around the room.

Tuesday

  1. Edit sheet QUIZ on errors.

  3. In the study of history, a primary source is an artifact, a document, a recording, or other source of information that was created at the time under study. It serves as an original source of information about the topic.
  4. secondary source is any source about an event, period, or issue in history that was produced after that event, period or issue has passed. Aside from a textbook, the most common secondary source is a scholarly text - a book on a specific subject from the past, written by an expert.
Monday - Welcome Back




  1. Silent reading - banned book. Essay due Friday, April 15. Work period for this essay this Friday, April 8
  2. Return essays - Reflection and goal setting for next steps in synthesis writing. 
  3. Progress reports.
  4. If you did not get your essay to me before the break, you have until tomorrow to give it to me. IF I do not receive it tomorrow, your name will be forwarded to admin and room 100 where you will complete an alternate assignment that meets the same learning requirements. This alternate work must be completed by Friday, April 8 or you will receive NHI (not handed in/zero) for this assignment.
  5. Edit sheet based on errors in synthesis essay. QUIZ on these errors tomorrow.
