Tuesday
Today we began work on the synthesis essay. The rubric for the essay is in the links section of the blog. Neither of the texts are available on-line; you will have to get copies from me.
Synthesis question:
Synthesis question:
Assess which text, The Bastard or
Faking It, demonstrates the greater drawbacks of being an “imposter.”
Step 1: read the question carefully and
look for the verb/action you have to “do” as a writer/thinker.
Step 2: go through both texts gathering
some evidence (quotes?) – make a t-chart about being an imposter.
Step 3: complete a writing plan for the
essay.
Step 4: write your essay.
Monday
- Silent reading - banned book. *Anybody who has not read The Bastard should let me know now during reading time.
- Discuss essay plans from last Friday
- QUIZ last Friday - short story terms and devices - who was away an did not write it?
- What makes a quality essay? Looking at sample essays to pull out what’s expected, what counts. From these ideas, I will create the rubric for the synthesis essay that you will be working on in class Tuesday and Wednesday.
- "Faking It" article - I will hand out articles for those who want read ahead of tomorrow's in-class write. Tomorrow you will begin writing a synthesis essay about Faking it and The Bastard - must be completed during class time.
