Tuesday

We went over the drama terms and devices practice from yesterday at the beginning of the class. For the remainder of the block, time was available to work on the transformation of a text from Taming of the Shrew. The criteria for the assignment are below; the assignment is explained in Monday's post.

Monday

Still too many people absent to complete the editing the script activity. We watched the end of The Taming of the Shrew. I gave out a drama terms and devices definition sheet and a practice matching quiz. Following that, I introduced the assignment below which is due on Thursday, December 17.

Multimodal* task: Select a speech from the play from the list provided, and analyze it (okay to look this up online, but include sources in assignment) with respect to the main attitudes, values and beliefs contained in the speech. Transform the speech in some way to make it more accessible to a modern audience. For example, transform it into a video, a PowerPoint, a children’s book, a map, a blog, a photo album, a series of Tweets,...
You must showcase your understanding of the original speech AND your new audience. Write a reflection on your transformation. What have you done to make the speech more accessible to a modern audience (changes to content, language)? Why will the changes you’ve made bring new life to the original text.
Due date Thursday, December 14 - please be advised that this assignment will not be accepted after Thursday. Those who do not complete it by the due date will receive an alternate assignment
( 9 page worksheet package on Taming of the Shrew) to complete by Tuesday, January 5.

Rubric for multimodal task: to be constructed together in class

* “Multimodal" projects  means your assignment should include two or more of the following features: written language, visual aspects, audio aspects, gestural/movement aspects, layout/organization of objects aspects.
      Examples of multimodal texts are:
  • a picture book, in which the textual and visual elements are arranged on individual pages that contribute to an overall set of bound pages
  • a webpage, in which elements such as sound effects, oral language, written language, music and still or moving images are combined
