Monday Nov.2nd to Friday Nov.8th
Monday
Today we reviewed the definitions of some non fiction terms (Anecdotal evidence, Expert testimony, Statistical evidence, Case study, Research). We then read the text "Multiculturalism, Canada's brand" and found examples of these different types of evidence.
Tuesday
It was decided that the novel assignment will be done as an in class write taking place on the morning of the 9th. If you wish you may bring a sheet of notes you have prepared beforehand to help with your writing process. The paper will be handed in at the end of the block and will be marked somewhat more leniently in terms of spelling and grammar because of the shorter time frame.
The class was spent organizing the Canadian voice charts and writing the personal reflection piece for the unit. Both of these must be in your folder when Ms Adams does the interview assessment.
Wednesday
Today we reviewed types of narrative poetry. We read an excerpt from "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and discussed the ballad stanza. We then practiced our ballad writing skills by creating a two stanza ballad which we put in our folders.
Thursday.
We defined epitaph, ode, eulogy and elegy. After a brief game of guess the epitaph we wrote our own, wither to go on our own gravestone or alternatively to commemorate our high school careers. We then read "Ode to my Suit' focusing on form, features, purpose and audience in the poem. We then wrote ourselves an ode and put than in our folders too. Finally we worked in groups on "Elegy for a Woman of no Importance" focusing on the same themes.
Friday
Today we reviewed free verse and concrete poetry. We used the exemplar of "Ode to my Foot" to consider the fact that a poem can fit into more than one category. Like Thursday we evaluated the poem based on form, features, purpose and audience. Just a reminder that we will meet in the library on Monday for the writing assignment
