Wednesday
With all the breaking news from Ottawa this morning it was a little difficult to concentrate on essay writing! Nevertheless, I returned the essay introduction practice exercise. Many of you are still struggling with how to write a properly structured introduction and how to construct a thesis: take heart! You will get there. After I whipped around the room and chatted with most of you, the understanding of essay introductions seems better. Fix-up that practice sheet; I want everyone to have 4/4! At the end of class I gave out the essay practice exercise on body paragraphs. It is due on Monday along with your final copy of your A Short Story essay.

Tuesday
After I returned the drafts of your essays, we continued to discuss how to improve the body paragraphs. We looked at two links on this blog that could be of help: The Essay Machine and How to Embed Quotes. I collected the introduction practice and will have feedback on it for you tomorrow. We completed filling out the editing notes to help in polishing your good copies: don't forget to consult it when going over your draft!

Monday
Today I gave a short quiz on the Hemingway story just to encourage everyone to finish reading it, and check for comprehension. I went over all the many positives I noticed in your essay writing: sentence structure; tone; use of quotes, just to name a few. I also mentioned some things you need to strengthen: arguments in the body being the most important at this time. For today we focused on the essay introduction once again and we examined the body of the essay to see how it should provide all the necessary information to write the introduction.
